Welcome to Ellers Cottage

Ellers Cottage is a beautifully situated newly rebuilt cottage nestling in a sheltered position under Loughrigg Fell, with a private sunny garden and southerly views over the Brathay and Langdale valleys. It is very close to the much photographed Loughrigg tarn.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park it is an ideal location for those who enjoy the outdoors – Locally there is fell walking, tennis, fishing, golf, horse riding and outdoor adventure sports or even watersports. There are a large number of scenic walks from the cottage to Ambleside, Grasmere and up the Langdale valley. There is a good choice of pubs and restaurants in Ambleside, Grasmere, Elterwater or 2 mins away in Skelwith Bridge.

Ellers cottage was converted in the late 50’s from a cart shed which was attached to a large barn the original slate roof was replaced by a flat roof. However, in 2000 it was decided to demolish the existing 60’s style single storey building and replace it with a new modern cottage. The cottage has been carefully designed to fit into to the local Lakeland style by using a small palette of materials such as local slate stone and natural oak. The addition of a first floor has enabled lovely views both across the valley and back towards Loughrigg.

The new cottage boasts; to the ground floor a large lounge with inglenook fireplace, a spacious modern kitchen, a dining area, a double bedroom, and a large bay window that overlooks the garden and the Brathay valley. Upstairs there are two further bedrooms one with en-suite and the other next to a family bathroom. The principal bedroom has a balcony, which offers the superb views over the valley. Internally the cottage is tastefully furnished throughout with antique and fitted furniture and benefits from a new fitted kitchen with all mod cons. Natural blue slate flooring has been used and adds to the traditional appearance internally. A new oil fired heating system will provide more than ample hot water and heating whilst a log burning stove will make even the coldest winter evening feel warm and cosy.

Externally the cottage has parking for two cars and a reasonable sized garden. The garden, which is south, facing, is both private and very sheltered and in the summer becomes a veritable suntrap. There is garden furniture available for those wishing to sit or dine outside.
